Strange laws from around the world

Recent events have got us thinking, what other odd strange and downright looney laws are there around the globe? Turns out there are a lot of places that have strange laws, though many are old and rarely enforced.

Suspiciously holding a salmon in the UK

Parliament's famous Salmon Act of 1986 states that it's illegal to hold a salmon under suspicious circumstances. Sounds fishy, but it's true.

Naming your baby something strange in Denmark

Kanye's strewed then... The country has official child naming guidelines. You can go off the  7,000 approved names they have, but you need to get approval.

Biking like a mad man in Mexico

Things such as cyclists must not lift feet from the pedals, as this may result in a loss of control. However, no hands is still fair game somehow?

Hiking naked in Switzerland

Well it is in switzerland, land of chocolate and cheese, this relatively new law that was introduced after a naked man walked past a family picnicking in the Alps in the last decade.


Pretending to be a bird perch in Venice

You can in fact receive a fine of up to hundreds of pounds for anyone who feeds the pigeons in Venice's St. Mark's Square. The city banned this since they believe them to be a health hazard.

Whistling in Canada

Petrolia in Ontario has initiated a law that limits excessive unneeded noise. The rule states that no shouting, whistling or singing is allowed at all. Could you imagine going to dinner with the person who thought that rule up?

Having your chickens cross the road in Georgia

If you want to find out why the chicken crossed the road, well go somewhere else. In Georgia it's illegal to let chickens cross the road, the government essentially wants owners to have their chickens under control. You know, those rascals them!

Wearing high heels in Greece

Leave your stilettos at home if you're planning on sightseeing around Greece's historic cities. High heels are illegal at certain ancient monuments because they can damage them, and because they often threaten preservation efforts .

Naming a pig Napoleon in France

Well it doesn't state specifically that you can't, it in fact says that it is illegal to offend the heads of state by naming your pig after them. This has recently been made a non criminal offence, but you’d better stick with the name babe or something otherwise they might get rowdy.

This one we can get behind, imagine breaking down, then the German AA having to come out and get whilst trying to maneuver round lambos and mclarens.

Peeing in the ocean in Portugal

You can’t pee in the ocean in Portugal, though we do wonder if anyone has actually ever been caught doing so? Unless you have a policeman REALLY close to you that feels the sea temperature rising...

Getting someone too drunk in Australian pubs

It's a bit counter intuitive, but we can KIND of understand what they are trying to do. Again however what is ‘too drunk?’
